Science Popularization: An article explains the past and present of toilets
A toilet, also known as a toilet seat, is a covered bucket used for urination and defecation. The history of toilets can be traced back to the Han Dynasty. At that time, the toilet was called Huzi and was exclusively used by the emperor. Legend has it that it was made of jade (common people usually used cesspools). Held by eunuchs who specialize in serving the emperor, for the emperor's convenience at any time. Later in the Tang Dynasty, due to a member of the emperor's family named Li Hu, in order to avoid taboo, Hu Zi was renamed as Beast Zi or Horse Zi. Afterwards, in circulation, it evolved into the name of toilet.
Traditional squat toilet
Evolved from ancient cesspools
advantage
1. Urinating and urinating, easy to aim, will not splash onto shoes and buttocks. 2. Fully squatting, no need to control bowel movement speed, can fully relax and feel as comfortable as possible,
3. Relatively hygienic, even if the family is mixed with men and women. 4. Parallel style (as shown in the picture) shallow cleaning and hygiene, pouring a basin of water is enough
shortcoming
1. Squatting is inconvenient. Not friendly to groups with weak thigh control, such as the elderly and children. The full squat movement tests physical strength and is inconvenient to install. Whether it's smashing holes or building high platforms, the cost is high and it's inconvenient to wipe the buttocks. If the tissue is in the pocket of the pants, it is difficult to pull it out. Placing the tissue box in a low position can easily get wet from the bathroom water, while placing the tissue box in a high position can make it inconvenient to reach the tissue from squatting to sideways or standing. 4. Deep cleaning is inconvenient. Only toilet balls can be used to clean and maintain hygiene, and it is difficult to clean the traces of feces.
